PE and Sport Premium
The Sports Premium is additional funding provided by the government to schools in England with the aim of improving the quality of physical education (PE) and sports provision for all students. This funding is allocated to schools based on the number of primary-aged pupils they have. The Sports Premium is intended to be used to develop PE and sports programmes, increase participation in physical activities, and improve the overall health and well-being of students.
At Waterside Academy, we are dedicated to maximising the impact of the Sports Premium to provide exciting and engaging PE lessons, offer a wider range of sports activities, and promote a lifelong love for physical activity among our students. Sports Premium - Summer Term 2024/2025 Update
We are pleased to share how the Sports Premium funding has been allocated and the positive impact it has had across our school.
This year, the full Sports Premium allocation was spent. A significant portion was invested in new PE equipment to ensure the curriculum can be delivered effectively and to a high standard. Additional resources were also purchased to enhance the structure and quality of lunchtime activities, promoting active play and physical development throughout the school day.
Part of the funding was used to provide staff with high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) led by Jason. This training was extremely well received, with teachers reporting that it was both valuable and impactful on their practice.
We allocated 25% of the Sports Premium to the Ridgeway Partnership, who organise and host all of our inter-school sporting events. We are delighted to share that, thanks to this partnership, we achieved the School Games Silver Award for the first time—a fantastic milestone for our school.
Additional Sports Premium funding was used to support a dance workshop for Key Stage 1, a healthy lifestyle and fitness workshop for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, as well as a skateboarding and scooter skills workshop. These activities were highly engaging for the pupils and provided valuable opportunities for them to develop new skills.
Finally, the funding also supported catch-up swimming sessions for pupils in Years 5 and 6, helping them to meet national swimming requirements. A portion of the budget was also used to deliver the Bikeability programme, equipping our pupils with vital cycling and road safety skills.
We are proud of the progress made and excited to continue building on this success in the coming year.
Sports Premium - Spring Term 2024/25 Update
Sports Premium money is government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality and breadth of physical education (PE) and sport for pupils. This term, we are using some of this funding to subsidise the cost of swimming lessons for children across KS2, including travel to and from the pool, making these lessons more accessible for all children. Additionally, the funding is being used to cover the full cost of the Bikeability program, which teaches vital cycling and road safety skills. We are also continuing to invest in our partnership with Ridgeway to provide more sporting opportunities and are using Sports Premium money to bring in a specialist sports coach. This coach not only works with pupils but also delivers valuable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for staff, enhancing the quality of PE teaching across the school.
