Inspectors described Waterside Academy as “a purposeful and respectful place where pupils get along very well” and recognised the strong relationships that exist across the school. The report highlights that “relationships between pupils and staff are rooted in mutual trust” and that pupils know staff “care deeply about their wellbeing.”
The inspection recognised the positive improvements taking place across the school since the appointment of new leaders. Inspectors noted that leaders “have a clear direction” and that “staff work together to implement the changes and recognise that the school is improving as a result.”
The report also praised the school’s inclusive ethos and commitment to supporting all pupils. Inspectors highlighted that staff “make a range of well-chosen adjustments and adaptations, particularly for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities,” helping all pupils access the curriculum successfully.
Our broad curriculum, focus on reading and vocabulary, and recent improvements in phonics were also recognised positively. Inspectors noted that these developments are “making a difference, with pupils knowing and remembering more.”
Beyond the classroom, the report celebrated the many wider opportunities available to pupils, including educational visits, clubs, music and leadership roles. Inspectors found that pupils “benefit from a rich range of wider experiences” which help to “broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world.”
