Special Educational Needs

Our Commitment

At Waterside Academy, every child is valued and supported to achieve their best. We believe that all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), should have the same opportunities to succeed, take part in school life, and feel proud of their achievements.

Our Approach

We follow the SEND Code of Practice and the Equality Act 2010 to make sure every child gets the right help at the right time.
Our staff work closely with parents, carers and outside professionals to understand each child’s needs and put the right support in place.

Support in School

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Mrs Kayleigh Spillman, leads our SEND team. Support may include:

  • Extra help in lessons or small groups

  • Personalised learning plans

  • Support from specialist services such as speech and language or educational psychology

  • Regular meetings with parents to review progress

Inclusion and Accessibility

All children are encouraged to join in with every part of school life — clubs, trips, performances and special events. Our school building is fully accessible and we make reasonable adjustments so that everyone can take part.

Working Together

We know that children do best when school and home work together. Parents are always welcome to talk to class teachers or the SENCO about their child’s progress or support.
