Please make sure that your children have a named water bottle in school every day.
Our P.E. days this week are a Tuesday and a Wednesday.
For the time being we would like children to only bring in a pair of trainers for PE lessons. Please do not bring in a full PE kit at this time.
This year as part of our Music curriculum we have learnt some festive songs using Makaton.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
No Pens Day Wednesday
For 'No Pens Day Wednesday' this year in Year One we focused on our drama skills as well as counting and teamwork.
In maths, we played Snakes and Ladders, which not only focused on our counting but also our turn taking!
In English, we role played the story of We're Going on a Bear Hunt.
Together at Waterside
During our Together at Waterside project we have been learning about the artist - Yayoi Kusama. She is a Japanese Artist famous for her love of polka dots. She is commonly known as the Princess of Polka Dots and we tried our best to use her artistic influence in our work this week!
As well as learning about Yayoi Kusama we have been working hard at settling ourselves into Year One. We have been learning about our daily routine and have been working on using new skills to enable our independence.
We have been looking at the Golden Rules and the 5 R's and exploring how these can benefit our learning.
PE: Our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For the time being we would like children to only bring in a pair of trainers for PE lessons. Please do not bring in a full PE kit at this time.
The phonics taught at Waterside is delivered daily using 'Letters and Sounds' - this is true for phases one through to four. Phase five is supplemented using additional materials.
Children are encouraged to read at school regularly and the books they read from are always matched to their current phase of phonological learning.
When the children have 'guided' sessions new sounds, words and more challenging texts are used as their are adults leading the sessions who can question and stretch appropriately.
