This term, our topic is 'Temples, Tombs and Treasures' where we learn about life in Ancient Egypt. For our Stunning Start, we set up activities where the children could explore a tomb simulation and draw a map after finding the 'treasures' inside, put together puzzles of Egytpian landmarks and artefacts, write their name in hieroglyphics, sketch Egptian artefacts and find Egyptian artefacts in sand like an archaeologist! The children had lots of fun participating in all the activities and created a scrapbook style page in their topic books sharing all the things they completed in the activities.
No Pens Day Wednesday
During No Pens Day Wednesday, Year 4 explored how we can learn about Maths and English through speaking and listening. We found new and creative ways to show our learning too just like we did here for our 'Array City' we created for Maths. We cut up small squares and places them on pieces of paper to show how we can present multiplications in different ways. Notice how our arrays look like a cityscape?
In English, we used our drama skills to show our understanding of a story.
In Science, we conducted an experiment to observe how materials can change state. We shook butter in a container until the fats separated from the liquids to create butter and curds.
And finally, in RE, we talked about Christmas traditions from around the world as well as our own. We even took part in a Scandinavian tradition of creating pomanders which are oranges decorated with cloves. We created patterns on the oranges with the cloves and talked about how these are decorated to make homes look and smell nice!
